Police Interview No. 4, Case 3764, Ginny Kim Murder

Subject: Carla D'Amata, 39, Art Director, Fiat Lux Design Reason Interviewed: General employee survey Date: November 19, 1996 Excerpts: Inspectors Linda Altamira and Alexis LeDuke Interview Transcript: AL Ms. D'Amata, do you think it is possible that Ginny Kim was having an affair with anyone in the office? MD Are you going to quote me? AL You could be called as a witness. MD So you're going to quote me. AL Ma'am, it's best to be honest. We'll subpoena you if we think you're witholding evidence. MD Listen, I'm just trying to watch out for myself. Nothing against the police, but information tends to travel. I don't know -- it doesn't matter -- this place is a fucking mess, excuse my French. It's worse now that Isabel is gone. AL Isabel? MD Sorry. I meant Isabel Fielding. She was the senior account executive here. Without her, the place has fallen apart. The new people have already pissed off the Bremmerton account, and Arthur doesn't see it at all. AL See what? MD That you can't just find another Isabel. People like that don't grow on trees. These new idiots he's hired, Valerie Solnet and Tom Kline, say yes to anything the client wants and then come back here and stick us with the deadline. AL How does this relate to Ginny Kim? MD It's just another example of how Arthur Fielding shouldn't be running this company. What I was going to say is that Ginny may have been having an affair with Arthur Fielding. I mean, I myself never saw anything, but she worked around Mr. Fielding all the time. People said they were close. AL Close? MD Everyone thought it was an affair. You have to consider the -- is this term right? -- circumstantial evidence. AL What type of circumstantial evidence was there? MD Look, Fielding has had at least four verified affairs with women from this office. If it wears a skirt, the man goes after it. No exceptions. That is, except for the Grendel-beast. AL Excuse me? MD His secretary, Mrs. Kinsley. AL We've spoken to her. MD I'll bet she told you that Fielding was a saint, didn't she? That woman has ice in her veins. AL Explain what you mean by a "verified" affair. MD It's simple. One month, Arthur hires a designer. The next month, someone (I can't name names) sees him holding hands with the designer in the coffee shop down the street. We see him giving them a ride in the morning. You want money, good work? Wear a low-cut dress and get hired by Arthur. Meanwhile, we staff designers do the real work and get piss for it. AL By piss you mean your salary? MD Yes, I mean my salary. AL What is your salary? MD Well, okay, I make 72K. But I struggled for it. AL What have you seen that makes you suspect Mr. Fielding and Ms. Kim were having an affair? MD Oh, I've seen them walking around South Park. I've seen them having lunch together. You know, it's like she was ambitious and he was a lech. You put those together and you get an affair. You know what I'm saying? AL Are there any clients of Fiat Lux that held a grudge against Ms. Kim? MD Are you kidding me? No. No way. Our clients are a bunch of idiots. They can hardly pick a color for a brochure, much less organize a hit on a secretary. Look, Ginny didn't have enemies. AL Thank you for your cooperation, Ma'am. Linda, do you have questions for Ms. D'Amata? LA Yes. Ms. D'Amata, tell me about Isabel's death. MD That is the strangest thing. It still feels like a Halloween prank. LA Tell us what you've heard. MD She went up to her country home and fell from the balcony while she was walking around. Apparently the whole house is under construction. That's what I heard. LA Do you have something to add? MD Well, if you really want to know, everybody wonders how Arthur the superprick got so lucky. He's been carrying on with so many different women. I'm sure he wouldn't mind having his wife dead and buried. LA Anything else? MD No, but I'd like to say that I think somebody should look into what happened to Isabel. LA Ms. D'Amata, I'd like to ask a favor of you. I was wondering if I could get you to spend some time tonight thinking of all the locations where you have seen or heard of Mr. Fielding and various women from this office. MD You mean where has he been having his affairs? LA If you would like to think of it that way, yes. MD It would be my pleasure, as long as you don't quote me. LA You'll have complete anonymity. When you're ready, write them down and e-mail them to us. Here's our address. AL Thank you again, ma'am. We'll be in touch. Back to Main Menu
