Location: Vulcan Container Storage at Pier 70, San Francisco
Date: November 18th, 1996
Time: 12:30 P.M.
Crime: Apparent homicide
Victim: Asian female
Coroner: Dr. James Ng
Autopsy Surgeon: Dr. Patricia Holt
Pronunced dead: 10:12 a.m.

Discovery
The body was discovered at approximately 9:00 a.m. by one Tony Romero, a professional truck driver (Teamsters Union, local 542). Romero stated that he found the body when he was in the process of hitching a cargo container (#43672, license plate #AS32661) to his rig. The container is used for storing and carrying stage sets to and from the Moscone Center. Upon opening the door to the container, which was left unlocked, Romero was struck by a foul odor; he opened the door and glimpsed one of the victim's hands. He claims to have immediately closed the door and used his cell phone to call 911. His call was logged at 9:23 A.M., Mr. Kenneth Sung, general manager of Vulcan confirmed the arrival time of Romero. He also told Officer Charlie Sisk that it is common practice to leave the cargo container unlocked. He stated that the storage area is left unsecured at night and on the weekends.

Witnesses
Tony Romero (See Discovery) No other witnesses have come forward.

Scene
Vulcan Container Storage is comprised of a large warehouse which includes the company's offices. The warehouse is bordered on two sides by large asphalt parking lots and on one side by the San Francisco Bay. For exact location see crime unit photo 2B. The cargo containers are stored with their doors facing the bay to prevent theft of contents. There is enough room between the door and edge of the pier for an individual(s) to manuever smaller objects. The storage area is left unlit at night. Cargo containers may sit for months at a time before being moved.

Victim
The body was discovered laying on its side directly behind the container door. The perpetrator(s) apparently made no attempt to move the contents of the container. The body shows the beginning stages of decomposition, suggesting that it has been in this location for several days. Dr. Holt has indicated that the victim was killed at the scene. The victim appears to have suffered numerous stab wounds to the chest area. Cause of death will be verified during the autopsy. The body is fully clothed: black leather jacket, sweater, cotton shirt, dark wool skirt, black tights, black leather shoes, silver earrings and rings. There are no obvious signs of sexual assault.
